about me
my name’s jess
I’m a writer and a storyteller. I studied journalism and got my first job as a staff writer at a small community newspaper. Then adventure called and off I went to travel the world. A year of solo travel led me to gigs with in-house creative teams at international travel companies — both big names and startups.
After a few international moves, a few layoffs, and a few years spent being more strategic than creative, I took the leap into the fast-paced, hustle-heavy world of freelancing. I built a portfolio I am beyond proud of and burnt myself out in the process. A decade of professional tumult — and the personal upheavals that came with it — inspired a turn toward big-name brands in an industry with less volatility; higher ed.
Throughout the many roles I’ve held and channels I’ve managed, my job has always been to tell stories. The lifestyle-focused brands I’ve built and grown have spanned industries, but all exude a sense of place, purpose, or fun.
The big-picture thread that ties my experiences together is that I am passionate about people, and I believe that when brands find their humanity and connect with their audience on a personal level, they can be loved for their personalities as much as they are for their products.
